Hello all of you hard working people! Tomorrow is our day to get together and work around the Park. Please meet us at the Picnic Grounds @ 10 a.m., bring gloves, we’ll provide some tools.

We’ll figure out who’s doing what and then we’ll meet back at 1 p.m. for lunch which, thanks to lovely Shirley Moore and volunteers, is being provided by our wonderful Recreation Committee!

Thanks to all of you who have already been working on different areas on our list.

See you there!

Sue Lovelace reported that she saw a bobcat on the riverbank behind houses on Keystone Way in section 6. Thanks for the news, Sue

Another reminder to keep a watch on your animals while keeping them on your allotment.

Please remember that we share this forest with many creatures. Now that it’s spring there are young and vunerable animals among us. Please remind your family members, guests and vendors to slow down. One of the best features about Paradise Park is the opportunity to do just this.

Members have noticed a dramatic reduction in the amount of dog littler in the park since the signs were put up, but now it looks like someone has removed them with out the approval of the Manager. They will be replaced because they were working , who ever took them down could return them to the Office and save us a lot of Money.

We have been informed by Greenwaste that they are starting their pick up rounds earlier on Monday morning and should have their first round completed by 8:00 A.M. We recommend that you have your containers by the road side on Sunday night.

(Update; We are presently working on improving the signage and barricades on Highway 9 so that vehicles do not enter PPMC during this project.)

This is to advise you of an upcoming retaining wall project on Highway 9 in Santa Cruz County, about two miles north of the Highway 1 intersection. The purpose of the project is to repair damage to the northbound shoulder and part of the traffic lane caused by a landslide that occurred during the winter of 2006. The slope below the roadway remains unstable. The intent of this project is to stabilize the slope below the roadway and make permanent roadway repairs. A soldier pile retaining wall will be built with a concrete barrier at the roadway level and a bicycle/pedestrian safety rail installed.

Construction roadwork is scheduled to start on May 24 with a full highway closure at post mile 1.8, which is located just north of our exit, on Monday, June 7. This section of Highway 9 is expected to be closed for nearly four months until October 1. However, all businesses along Hwy. 9 will remain open during the roadway closure.

This project will require a full detour of traffic for 3-4 months for most of the project’s duration because the large-scale equipment needed to complete repairs requires the full roadway’s narrow width, leaving no room for safe passage of vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians. The designated detour for vehicle traffic will be Highway 17 and Mount Hermon Road. Cyclists will be routed to Graham Hill Road. Caltrans has consulted with the City of Scotts Valley and the County of Santa Cruz in setting up these detours.

Again this will not effect the Entrance or Exit roads of the park but it will effect those who would want to head towards Felton.

If you have green waste bins please use them. We are noticing gardeners not using the Green bins even though the members have them.

Please help us lower our yard waste dump fees by using these bins.

-Thank you

Folks,

The first bike stolen was a three wheeler from in front of Mable Coleman’s house about a month ago or so. Today we got news that another, very expensive bike has been stolen from someones yard. We will post the description of both bikes following this alert.
Please take PRO-ACTIVE measures! It is advised to keep bikes and other valuable equipment either locked up or inside a secure area, out of sight. We are not sure what time these incidents occurred or by who but we would expect during the night. Please alert and  engage your neighbors by activating a neighborhood watch and spread the word. Do not hesitate to call the Sheriffs Dept. if you see anyone who is “casing” the Park (looking into cars, garages, yards, etc.)
Also, please remind your guests and family members to register at the office. It’s easier to be proactive when you know your neighbors and their guests. We need your help so, Please spread the word!!!
This affects all of us!
Thank you,
Cyndy Crogan
Manager/PPMC
